Graphic Design 101: Creating Graphics Advisors Can Use
As advisors, we often are the first form of communication between students, faculty, and staff. We inform students about upcoming events, registration reminders, etc, however there are only so many emails we can send before they get lost in the abyss. Sometimes, we try to appeal to students and create graphics or showy images to lur students to an event. However, we're not all graphic designers, and expectation does not always meet reality. In this precon workshop, we'll go over basic design principles everyone should know and utilize when creating graphics. Participants will leave knowing the do's and don'ts of graphic design, how to use templates, and when to use different types of media to disseminate messaging. They'll create their own graphic designs and templates to use when communicating with students, faculty, and fellow advisors.
Materials to receive:
One-month design membership to either Canva Pro or Adobe Express
Access to Adobe Stock
Templates for advising communication (flyers, event announcements, social media, posts) following institutional brand guidelines |
