Have you ever unwittingly entered into an interminable email exchange with a student or parents, wherein you struggle to manage tone while repeating the same answer, and additional staff members of increasing seniority are pulled into a growing tumbleweed of bureaucratic drama? ChatGPT can help. This presentation will explore current and potential uses of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in academic administration, with particular emphasis on academic advising. GAI has enormous promise to advance advising work and enhance student support dynamically and innovatively. Practical applications and ethical considerations will be addressed and participants will have an opportunity to engage with and create their own advising materials using GAI platform ChatGPT. Topics covered include: prompting ChatGPT, critically responding to ChatGPT outputs, creative applications of GAI in advising project work, and data processing using ChatGPT. |
