Abstract: Title: Advisors do H.E.L.P by Driving Persistence Through Academic Difficulty

Academic advising has not always been about the dissemination of schedules for students. It has been about the H.E.L.P we provide to each student we encounter. Sometimes the transition from one university to the next requires more than orientation or a once a semester mandatory advising session. To quote Tinto, 'Student success is shaped by academic and social integration into the college environment.' In this presentation we will discuss how advisors H.E.L.P students persist during academic difficulty. The acronym H.E.L.P stands for the following:

H - Holistic Support
E - Empowerment
L - Learning Enhancement
P - Personalized Guidance

In this presentation we will uncover how advisors take the H.E.L.P approach and provide students with a self-directed experience leading to student success.
