Amplifying Advising: Student Advisors in Action
Advising at large, public, research universities continue to experience an increase in demand how can advisors utilize students to amplify advising services and empower student advisors to meet that demand? Our advising office, a large, centralized unit, has implemented three strategies to assist in the ever-growing student population's demands for advising. These include student orientation leader advising for incoming students, peer advising for general advising services, and graduate student advising for general and more specific advising needs. These three student led services have dramatically expanded the reach of our office and increased advising accessibility. This presentation will delve into the implementation and impact of these strategies, highlighting best practices and lessons learned. Attendees will gain valuable insights into leveraging student involvement to enhance advising services in similar institutional contexts. |
