Navigating Barriers to Adult Learner Re-enrollment: Advisors and Holistic Support
Many barriers prevent adult learners with some college, no credential from returning to college (NSC Research Center, 2023). Fortunately, advisors are uniquely positioned to help students navigate complicated re-enrollment processes.
This panel of researchers and advisors will highlight a multi-institutional program for stopped-out adult learners, particularly those with administrative holds and past due balances. More than 6.6 million individuals nationally owe money to former institutions and have a transcript hold (Karon et al., 2020). As the Department of Education's new regulations limit transcript withholding nationally, this is a crucial time to reevaluate advising.
Now two years into program implementation, institutions will share holistic advising strategies to support adult learners' unique circumstances. Attendees will learn actionable ways to create positive change within their own contexts. |
