Abstract:
|
Academic advisors are tasked with guiding students to academic and career success along their journey to graduation. Students enter college with a varying degree of autonomy and self-efficacy with their need to navigate the systems set up within higher education institutions. Students will express an assortment of needs and wants to advisors (What are easy classes to take to boost my GPA, How do I transfer classes from a previous institution, how do I use my military benefits, registration challenges, etc.) However, what if an advisor took the time to teach a student how to do things independently while giving context and scaffolding to help the student learn for future questions and situations that may arise? In the workshop, advisors will learn the benefits of Autonomy Supportive Advising. |
