Abstract:
|
Applying the Wisdom of I-Ching for Transformative Advising
I-Ching is the oldest Chinese classics that is seminal to both Daoist and Confucianist philosophies. Its profound wisdom can be applied to improve the human mind (Wilhelm, 1977), especially the subconscious mind (Jung, 1949). Our session will start with a guided meditation to initiate our intuitive mind, followed by introduction to I-Ching hexagrams and how they are generated. We will then elaborate on the I-Ching system, its methods of mapping internal and external dynamics, processes, and patterns, and its power in guiding us to make conscious decisions. We will explore ways to apply the wisdom of I-Ching for transformative advising that is student-centered, identity-based, and growth-oriented. We will conclude with drawing ontological and epistemological implications for a possible paradigm shift, aiming for more empowering and transformative advising. |
