Abstract: Title: Be the Spark: Advising with Imagination and Resiliency

Impacting students doesn't have to be just a 'Figment' of your Imagination! This presentation reviews Marty Sklar's 'One Little Spark! Mickey's Ten Commandments and The Road to Imagineering,' and how the foundational principles and creativity of Walt Disney are applicable to advising practices and theories today. The importance of imaginative goal setting, resiliency, and the value of both 'Mousecars' (successes) and 'Goofs' (learning opportunities) in individual development, are a few of the book topics reviewed as we connect Mickey's Ten to advising and motivational interviewing. The role of an advisor can create a magical impact with just one little spark of imagination!
