Abstract:
|
Understanding and Supporting Adult Learners.
Adult learners, also referred to as nontraditional or posttraditional students, are students with specific characteristics that differentiate them from traditional college students such as age, part-time enrollment in college, working full time, or having children or other non-spouse dependents. Depending on how nontraditional students are defined, adult learners could account for nearly 70% of all undergraduates. It is important for all advisors to understand the differences between traditional students and adult learners, the unique challenges adult learners face, and strategies for effectively working with adult learners. This session will help participants learn more about adult learners and how to support them as well as share best practices in working with adult learners. |
