Abstract:
|
Peer mentor programs continue to develop and enrich academic advising programs globally (NACADA, 2024). This presentation aims to share insights into our institution's Honors Peer Mentor Program, which draws from relevant theories and research in counseling, academic coaching, and community development. The program showcases our ability to extend our advisors' capacity to help students through a farther-reaching peer network and provide more holistic advising. Our program is unique in that it offers the opportunity for mentors to receive credit toward an academic certificate, provides potential for gaining higher-level leadership experience, and incorporates hands-on mentoring practice during peer mentor training. Additionally, we have adopted multicultural instructional practices into our training program. Attendees will gain valuable insights into implementing similar initiatives at their institutions, helping to foster a culture of student support and success. |
