Technology in Academic Advising: Using Technology Acceptance Model Theory to Enhance Adoption
As the use of technology increases within the practice of academic advising, leaders are challenged to determine how to select new technologies and then how to encourage advisors to adopt the new technology into their advising practice. Many times, new technologies are introduced as a mandate to use without consideration of the best way to demonstrate the usefulness, ease of use, and relevance to the advising practice. The principles of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) can be considered in the selection, implementation, and adoption of new technologies, thus yielding a higher return on investment and potentially increasing student and advisor satisfaction, retention, and persistence. The principles of TAM can guide leaders and advisors as they partner to implement technologies that benefit the entire campus. |
