Abstract:
|
Academic Advising Models in Carnegie-Classified Institutions: A Qualitative Study
Utilizing the Carnegie Classification, the study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of advising practices by examining the prevalence of centralized, decentralized, and shared structures. We seek to address the critical role of academic advising in enhancing student persistence to graduation and highlight the variability and implications of advising structures across institutions. Given the scarcity of literature on organizational advising models, this research seeks to fill a gap by examining how different models impact student success and institutional effectiveness. Through a content analysis of institutional websites, we evaluate the advising personnel, the consistency of advising models across campus units, and the alignment with institutional missions and student needs. This research underscores the importance of informed decision-making in academic advising to optimize resource allocation, support student retention, and enhance overall educational outcomes. |
