Abstract:
|
Adjusting to college is hard for everyone. How do I time manage? How do I work and balance school? How do I meet new people? Many different parts of their life are changing all at once. Advisors need to make mental health discussions a routine part of their meetings with students. A failed test could be more than not studying. Not showing to class could be more than sleeping through their alarm. What questions do we ask? How do we bring up topics? Advisors can help students with resources to help them navigate the different parts of their mental health. We need to pay attention to language associated with the experience, student personal challenges, and barriers students face. This will adjust the conversations and re-motivate students to take back control of their futures. |
