Abstract:
|
The purpose of this structured literature review is to explore perceptions and discussions of academic advising beyond its primary academic journals to understand its broader conceptualization and recognition in various scholarly and practitioner contexts. Drawing from the theories of professionalization, this review examines academic advising's evolving status, societal perceptions, and impact on higher education. Through a systematic approach involving database searches, reference scanning, and the utilization of Google Scholar, this study identifies themes, patterns, and meta-perceptions of academic advising. Findings are expected to reveal the profession's alignment with established professional criteria, its challenges in gaining societal recognition, and its contributions to student success. This comprehensive analysis aims to enhance understanding of academic advising's role and to inform strategies for its recognition and development as a profession. |
