Abstract:

Using Roadmap Infographics to Support Students' Academic Identity Development
Presenters will share an advising tool used to facilitate customized advising conversations based on students' stages of academic and career exploration. Grounded in McGill's (2021) substantive theory of academic advising process, our Roadmap advising resource gives students and advisors a framework to guide exploration and reflection. Whether students are undeclared, exploring academic options, or seniors finalizing post-graduation goals, we will show how we use advising strategies to assist students in developing personalized action plans found within the Roadmap infographics. This advising resource, coupled with relational advising techniques, support post-graduation success, retention, major declaration, experiential learning participation, and student success. An opportunity to draft a roadmap based on your own student populations will be provided. This session is presented by staff members of a fully integrated academic and career advising office. |
