Abstract: How to Have Difficult Conversations with Students Successfully

Within Higher Education, we are tasked with having difficult conversations with students. My purpose for this proposal is to equip higher education officials with strategies to prepare and navigate those challenging conversations successfully. My research included techniques such as how to plan for challenging discussions, actions such as rephrasing while navigating tough conversations, how to utilize inclusive pedagogy to include the totality of the student during challenging conversations, and which metrics to utilize to determine if conversations were effective successfully. I learned that the utilization of the theory mentioned and certain strategies can result in any difficult conversation being effective and successful.
