Abstract: Creating Tools for New Advisor Development and Success

Continuous onboarding, high turnover, and a steep learning curve are issues that affect advising offices and new advisors. Training as a new advisor can often feel like trial by fire. These experiences can cause stress for new advisors and seasoned staff alike.

Advising offices can create practices and accessible online resources that give structure and support to the learning process. Through NACADA's Core Competencies and New Advisor Development Chart, this presentation will examine how an advising office has incorporated these principles into a training website to support new advisor learning and development. This presentation includes our strategies for communication with new advisors and training staff, organization of training materials within an accessible and tailored training website, structure of the training timeline, and evaluation of our training processes.
