Abstract:
|
In higher education, mid-level practitioners face challenges that affect them personally and professionally. Some advisors seek advancement to the top, while others are happy as 'helping professionals.' When promotions are unavailable to this group, finding appreciation in their jobs can be difficult. In reality, when a vertical path is elusive at an institution, horizontal movements could afford the best opportunities for aiding in professional development. Participants in the workshop will jump into scholarship on middle management in higher education to gain insights from our past to assist them in planning their future outlooks. There will be opportunities to create career action plans to bring their journeys to the next level. As the industry continues to change, our mid-level colleagues have various strengths to help mold themselves to learn new and innovative ways to reach our student, faculty, administrative, and stakeholder populations. Join the conversation to learn how to forge a prosperous, rewarding career independent of the conventional 'climbing the ladder' approach and engage in your #HorizontalBranding on and off campus. This four-hour pre-conference session will include (1) a review of the topic, (2) networking with fellow mid-level advisors, (3) panel discussion from industry leaders, and (4) career success planning to overcome your struggles and conquer your doubts! |
