Abstract:

Supporting Families of Students: Developing A Supplemental Family Orientation
Grounded in Nancy Schlossberg's Transition Theory (2006), this presentation will review data from a supplemental family orientation program implemented to support families during the transition and equip them with the knowledge and resources needed to support their students effectively through their first year. By addressing the unique challenges families face during the transition to college, such as changes in roles and routines, the orientation aims to foster communication, resilience, and advocacy within families. This research aims to equip educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to foster collaborative partnerships between families and institutions. Offering a supplemental family orientation aligns with the core mission of academic advising: to empower students to achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. |
