Abstract: A Seminar Approach to Supporting Transfer Students
In Fall 2022, a cross-campus taskforce was charged with examining the institution's transfer seminar and making recommendations for the future of this course. The taskforce considered curricular purpose, student learning outcomes, impact for special student populations, high and low credit hour majors, as well as main campus and extension students in its examination of research and best practices for transfer students. Through these efforts changes to the transfer seminar were made for Fall 2023 to be a practically focused course concentrating on transitional issues specific to transfer students, campus resources and academic/career exploration and planning. This presentation will focus on the needs of transfer students, and how to create a seminar course which provides a unique level of support to meet those needs.
