Abstract:
|
With increasing scrutiny on career outcomes for college graduates, everyone needs to be a 'career advisor.' With some students reluctant to visit career centers early in their academic careers (or ever), academic advisors can teach students to intentionally explore career options through regular academic advising transactions. Based on the frequency and quality of interactions, academic advisors can be the best career advocates.
Using two foundational career development theories, and their collective backgrounds in career services, academic advising, and corporate recruiting, presenters will teach participants to easily incorporate career considerations into everyday academic advising conversations.
Advisors will learn strategies to help students 1) reflect on knowledge, skills, and interests from coursework, 2) link academic programs to potential careers, 3) incorporate experiential learning into degree plans, and 4) maximize academic opportunities to increase career preparedness and confidence. |
