Creating Space for Faculty Advising: Rebooting the First-Year Advising Model
In the aftermath of the pandemic, we see more and more students less and less able to 'do' college. As institutions reconsider how best to support, challenge, and retain students in the face of these shifting demographics and academic preparation levels, it is critical to bolster what is already working - e.g. faculty advising relationships - while aligning it with the new generation of students' needs. Rebooting an institutional advising model can intentionally create the space faculty need to do their best work, and session participants will gain a greater understanding of how to implement a revised advising structure that builds faculty buy-in, creates mechanisms to support and communicate with faculty advisors, and leverages advising leadership to navigate shared governance and gather meaningful assessment data. |
