Title: Using Strength-Based Cultural Advising to Support Graduate Students and Their Faculty Advisors
Lead Presenter: Doris Carroll
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Graduate students need dynamic academic advising as they prepare for research and professional practice activities to promote their career success. Effective graduate faculty advisors combine strength-based cultural advising with engagement and trust to create productive and creative graduate students who are then well-prepared for industry, education, and research careers. This presentation will illustrate how strength-based cultural advising enhances the research and practice work of graduate students across all disciplines. It uses the blending of strength-based advising with cultural competencies to promote graduate student success. We invite graduate advisors across disciplines to share their experiences in this exciting discussion. We welcome graduate students to tell us which advising elements are most important to their personal success.
