Title: Leveraging your LMS to Acclimate Students to Your 'Neighborhood' During Summer Registration
Lead Presenter: Jill Oberfeitinger
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Leveraging your LMS to acclimate students to your "neighborhood" during summer registration. Many educational institutions face challenges in engaging incoming students from the time they deposit until they register or matriculate for the academic year. Summer registration can be perceived as a mere transactional process, which fails to build a healthy relationship between the institution and the student. This session will examine how one small liberal arts institution used their Learning Management System (LMS) to create an orientation mini-course centered on the transactional process of registration. This approach was instrumental in creating a positive relational experience for students during summer registration while ensuring they are prepared for the academic year ahead. The institution was able to increase paperwork completion rates, placement testing engagement, and retention rates.
