Advising in the 21st Century
Every day we walk into our offices and present choices to our students that we believe are in their best interest. Too often, leadership overlooks what we do on a day to day basis and sees our field as registration only, and does not take into account our holistic approach to advising our students. We are the retention experts, mental health coaches, and a students main contact throughout their time at the university. We should be seen in a more professional manner. This presentation aims to look at different theories and advising models that we can use to push our advising profession further into the spot light as an indispensable profession in high education. I aim to give examples of different tools and techniques that can be used to show our value to those who may not see it initially. Let's join together and make ourselves known. |
