Building Bridges: Empowering Women in STEM through Peer Mentorship
Informed by our perspective at a large research institution, we will discuss the impacts of a peer mentoring program for women in a specific STEM major, in which over 50% of students identify as women. We will explore national data trends on gender in STEM academic units, as well as in the workforce. We will share quantitative and qualitative data from a peer mentoring program that was launched in 2020, including hearing directly from students who have participated in the program as both mentors and mentees. Specific tactics, strategies, and challenges for the program will be explored, as well as ongoing assessment and future work. Participants will be able to share their experiences and challenges they've faced in supporting women in STEM at other institutions. |
