Abstract: Americans with Disabilities Basics: Effective Strategies for Individuals with Disabilities
Learn the basics of the ADA, specifically related to higher education, including Section 504 and Title III. What is the definition of a disability according to the ADA? Learn about disabilities including (but not limited to) Learning Disabilities in Reading, Math, and Writing, Hearing and Visual disabilities, AD/HD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Psychological, Mobility, Chronic Illness, and Traumatic Brain Injuries, among other more specific disabilities under each category. Learn about possible functional impacts that each of these disabilities could have on individuals. Finally, we will learn about some effective strategies for accessibility and best practices when advising/interacting with students with known or perceived disabilities.
