You belong! I belong! We belong! But how do we create that sense of belonging? As academic advisors, we are committed to fostering holistic development of our students. We focus on building relationships with students to help create a sense of belonging; a developmental process rooted in the need to feel safe, comfortable, and able to present our authentic selves 'Vaccaro & Newman, 2022'. Join this session to learn about how one private, liberal arts institution set out to create a blueprint for student success and belonging, starting at new student orientation. Throughout the interactive session you will learn about the process of creating and implementing a belonging survey to students and parents, explore the initial outcomes and lessons learned on the path to creating belonging, and learn how to create your own belonging blueprint. |
