Abstract:
|
Our presentation explores the pivotal role of academic advisors in fostering self-belief among college students. Self-belief is a fundamental driver of academic motivation, resilience, and overall achievement (Bandura, 1997). Academic advisors, as mentors and guides, possess a unique opportunity to positively influence students' self-belief. We investigate six key components of self-belief, including Academic Performance, Decision Making/Problem-Solving, Motivation/Engagement, Goals, Assertiveness/Confidence, and Resilience/Self Awareness, highlighting their profound impact on college success and life satisfaction. We outline a series of well-designed activities, each targeting specific facets of self-belief. Through real-world examples and data analysis, we showcase the effectiveness of these activities in bolstering students' self-belief. A pre-and-post assessment of incoming freshmen students' self-belief. Attendees will gain actionable insights and practical approaches to empower students with self-belief, ultimately enhancing their academic outcomes and college experiences. |
