Abstract: Academic Advisor's Perspectives on Academic Probation Policies

Academic probation is a widespread policy that colleges and universities use to identify students who are not making satisfactory academic progress. In response to the consequences associated with students being placed on academic probation, colleges and universities have established various university-specific interventions to attempt to get students back in good academic standing. Academic advisors play a crucial role in the interventions colleges and universities implement. However, little is known about the perspectives and experiences of these front-line workers who work closely with students on academic probation. This presentation will discuss the findings from a qualitative study focused on academic advisors' perspectives on academic probation policies.
