Abstract: The first year of university signifies a crucial starting point in students' growth, presenting the challenge of transitioning to higher education. This pivotal period demands a swift adjustment to university studies. Given the disconnect between the requirements of professional courses and foundational education, coupled with evident regional and individual differences, many engineering freshmen encounter difficulties in adapting to university learning from the outset. This abstract introduces a four-year-running Bridging Course designed to assist freshmen through various methods, including textbooks, online courses, tutoring, tests, incentive mechanisms, and learning situation analysis, addressing knowledge gaps. Further substantiating the efficacy of the Bridging Course, a study on the learning adaptability of 5,150 undergraduates demonstrated that engineering students exhibited superior learning adaptability compared to their peers in other disciplines. This course not only facilitates adaptation to professional courses and university life but also provides a template for addressing adaptation issues among international students.

The Bridging Course emerges as a valuable intervention, offering insights and a replicable model for improving the educational experience of engineering freshmen.
