Abstract:
|
"I Belong, [STATE NAME]:" Creating a Thriving Advising Culture in a Decentralized Environment
Decentralized university environments do not easily lend themselves to a rich advising culture networked enough to problem solve and endure change management. Yet we know a strong culture is key to adviser retention, satisfaction, and, subsequently, student success. Changing or creating culture can seem daunting and takes time. What goes into creating a strong culture of advising? How can we measure effectiveness? Discover strategies used at our 4-year land grant university to create an advising culture across several decentralized campuses in the midst of budget and program cuts. Our strategic communication and relationship building created a sense of belonging, professional identity and purpose in academic advising. |
