From Classroom to Campus: Insights from Former 9-12 Teachers
The professional experiences of academic advisors prior to their joining the field can lead to significantly positive outcomes within the scope of advising practice. In this presentation, two current advisors with a combined 23 year experience in public education share the tools, mindsets, and approaches acquired during their tenure that substantially enhance their current role as advisors.
Utilizing the NACADA Core Competencies, presenters will discuss informational, relational, and conceptual methodologies that have proven beneficial for students based on the presenter's time in public education. Life-long learning is an important cornerstone for effective advisors; therefore, the rich and fruitful learning that can materialize for academic advisors from collaborating with those of different backgrounds can positively lead to even great success for both the advisor and the advisee. |
