Advising Administration & Leadership Lessons for Success
Advising administrator roles have expanded, both in number and in complexity, especially at colleges and universities focused on improving student success outcomes. Such a role is not for the faint of heart. It comes with unique challenges, joys, and opportunities that are not what everyone would expect. In many cases, advising administrators report to people with little or no background in the advising profession and a potentially limited understanding of how to design, strategize, and lead student support to achieve desired outcomes. The challenges of meeting shifting student needs become compounded when our roles are reshaped. There's great news, though! We are not alone. Colleagues and peers are a particularly important source of learning, mentorship, modeling, creativity, and collaboration. They also help to illuminate options for our path forward and provide critical support for our professional growth and development.
Join faculty members from NACADA's 2023/24 Administrators' Institutes for this interactive workshop, designed as a mini-institute that will connect and engage you with colleagues across the globe. Learn about some of the core principles behind building and supporting your advising team. Consider the ways in which you can and must manage 'up and across' your institution. Hear tales from advising administrators to learn how they've handled situations that are common to us all. And participate in group consultation to get feedback from your peers about what you can do in your current role to be the leader your team and your students need. |
