Stop Waiting to Exhale! Practice Self-Care while Advising
Go ahead, Advisors, stop waiting to exhale! Release the stress! The entire nation appears to be under some stress due to many circumstances and situations encountered daily economically, personally, professionally, and socially. Self-doubt, disbelief, and defeat trigger stress in the workplace. There are several ways to manage stress, like regularly visiting a medical doctor and mental health therapist, regular exercise, proper eating habits, and quality family time to exhale from the day-to-day stresses for a healthier physical, emotional, and mental livelihood. Practicing self-care in the workplace helps advisors in higher education understand where the value is in what they do that leads to a professionally healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it is essential to implement a routine self-care practice for advisors as a resourceful tool to encourage a safe and healthy work environment for advisors and students. |
