Abstract:

Factors Contributing to Employee Engagement of Academic Advisors
This quantitative correlational study explores factors contributing to academic advisor engagement in American higher education institutions. Using social engagement theory and the Job Demands-Resources model as theoretical frameworks, the study aims to measure the levels of employee engagement among academic advisors and to explore the availability of a taxonomy of resources (organizational, social, and job) that influence engagement. Using the results of this study, institutions may be able to implement practices to increase advisor employee engagement. By understanding the resources that can support employee engagement of academic advisors, institutions may be able to retain advisors at higher rates, reducing costs to hire and train employees, increasing productivity and performance within the institution, and perhaps even increasing revenue through student enrollment, retention, and graduation. |
