Abstract:
|
Family support, personal qualities and college readiness programs while in high school can be predictors for the success level of first generation college students (FGCS). As a FGCS, the support of family and their expectations play a major role in students' tenacity as a college student. The presenter was placed on academic probation after his first semester as an undergraduate student. Over time, he was able to build my success skills in note-taking, study skills, communication and networking skills through the use of campus services and involvement in college organizations. He was also empowered by the success stories of other FGCS's and by positive role models including campus leaders an academic dean on the campus. |
