Title: Mind the Gap! How Advising Can Help Facilitate Change of Campus Students Toward a 2+2=4 Reality
Lead Presenter: Jennifer Lachendro
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: One of the most forgotten groups in higher education is students who transfer into a large institution from a smaller campus or community college. Transfer students will experience not only academic adjustments but also have to navigate a whole new lifestyle in their altered surroundings. Supportive, knowledgeable advisers on both sides of the transfer bridge can help narrow the increasing gap toward the advertised, yet rarely attained 4-year graduation target. During this session, we will review the characteristics of these pivoting students, discuss ways to provide more academic, social and engagement support to aid in transfer/transitioning students' degree completion in a more intentional and altruistic manner.
