Abstract: Anne Bishop defines an ally as an individual from a dominant group who seeks to end oppression by actively engaging in improving the lives of marginalized individuals through intentional and conscious efforts. Academic advisors and student affairs professionals have the opportunity to participate in hours of instruction and training to become better advocates for students, but what happens when it's time to put theory into practice and fear creeps in? How can you turn discomfort into action and become an intentional ally?
