Abstract:
|
"I just need the fastest path to a degree:" Meaning-making in degree completion programs
Meaning-making occurs throughout a student's academic career and continues after the student has graduated. It's an especially personal process; each student will arrive at their own understanding of their coursework and experiences before and after graduation. However, not all students complete undergraduate degrees on four-year timetables. Focusing on three degree paths at a large, land-grant university, presenters will present case studies to illustrate some of the complexities students in degree-completion programs face, as well as some of the challenges advisors encounter when attempting to engage students in finding meaning in their courses. Attendees will be asked to participate in discussion and by sharing their own work. Presenters will then offer strategies to engage students in holistically integrating their educational experiences. |
