Title: To Whom It May Concern: Writing Strong Letters of Support for Students
Lead Presenter: Stephen Pajewski
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Advisors often support students by writing letters of recommendation for those who are pursuing opportunities, such as for graduate school, scholarships, memberships, and internships. This session offers tips for building effective elements of a strong letter, such as the opening and closing paragraphs, and using examples of when the student has demonstrated relevant qualities. The session also reviews steps for collecting useful information to include in the letter, including getting students to provide their goals and motivations, and researching the program to which the student is applying. We'll consider feedback from several graduate school admissions professionals who've shared what they believe to be essential for strong letters. We'll also discuss how (and if) artificial intelligence can be used to assist in writing letters of support.
