Title: Experiential Advising: Re-Evaluating Your Advising Skillset and Building Cognitive Empathy as an Ad
Lead Presenter: Wojciech Bełtkiewicz
Date: December 31, 1969    Time: 6:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Room:
Abstract: Four academic advisors at a large public university enrolled in undergraduate courses to "experience what undergraduate advisees are experiencing." The result was a theoretical model of "Experiential Advising," which borrowed from David Kolb's theory of experiential learning, Judith Butler's theory of gender identity, and Jennifer Bloom's theory of appreciative advising, in order to re-evaluate advisor identities to learn again to be a student to become a more effective advisor.

This panel presentation will act as a forum for advisor-turned-student professionals. Within the framework of "Experiential Advising," it will elaborate on classroom encounters, learning processes, impact on advisor identities, as well as the resulting outcomes in one-on-one student-advisor meetings.
