Abstract:

I've Fallen and I CAN Get Up: Successful Retention Strategies for Nursing Students
As many nursing students face challenges with completing the requirements of their rigorous degree program, there are several critical junctures where advisors can help these students work through their challenges with completing program requirements and considering other areas of study. Drawing upon constructivist learning theory and its emphasis on learners' active role in building understanding, this session will provide the constructivist strategies that an institution has used to successfully retain nursing students who are working through academic challenges. Through both personal reflection and group discussion, participants will be invited to explore their understanding of constructivist learning theory and encouraged to reflect upon opportunities to use constructivism to inform their advising practice and increase the retention of the nursing students at their institutions. |
