Abstract: Navigating the Minefield: Addressing Toxic Positivity in Academic Advising is a presentation that sheds light on the concept of toxic positivity and its harmful effects in academic advising. While creating a positive and supportive environment is crucial for academic advisors, the current trend of toxic positivity can negatively impact student well-being and academic success. This presentation equips academic advisors with practical strategies to navigate such challenges effectively. By engaging in interactive activities, case studies, and open discussions, participants will learn to identify and understand the characteristics of toxic positivity in advising. They will also recognize the potential consequences of toxic positivity on students' mental health, academic motivation, and self-efficacy. Furthermore, they will develop effective communication skills to acknowledge students' struggles without diminishing their experiences
