Abstract: Advising lessons from The Connection Project: Belonging framework to practical strategies

What makes you feel that you belong? Many college students report feeling lonely and disconnected. Academic advisors and instructors are in a unique position to facilitate connection as students embark upon their first year and beyond. Creating an environment in which students feel they belong can positively impact academic achievement and resilience, while challenging instances of imposter syndrome. Join us as we discuss sense of belonging and share what we learned through collaborating with our campus wellness office to offer The Connection Project, a group-intervention created to increase student connection and decrease loneliness. We will share practical strategies that can be implemented and adapted into advising practice and course content through a belonging framework.
