Abstract:

Reenrollment Student Success: A Holistic Student-Centered Approach to Degree Completion
The pandemic disproportionately impacted communities of color, first-generation, and low-income students. To address the retention gaps among these communities, we implemented a proactive, holistic, Reenrollment advising approach. This approach includes a five-stage methodology: Data-Driven Approach, Proactive Outreach, Holistic Advising and Assessment, Cross-Departmental Partnership Consultation, Proactive Tracking and Monitoring from Matriculation to Graduation. After evaluating disaggregated data and targeted student cases, we reengaged 230 undergraduate seniors, who previously stopped out. Proactive outreach and advising resulted in the re-enrollment of 184 undergraduates (an 80% reenrollment rate), of which 37% are first-generation college students, and 34% are young men of color. To maximize Reenrollment student support and to increase student persistence toward degree completion, administrative barriers are identified and cross-departmental collaborations are leveraged. |
