Abstract:
|
Institutional policy and process changes can be a daunting task within a decentralized structure. For over ten years, our institution grappled with addressing the complexities of coordinating academic probation and dismissal processes. Our eighteen-month grassroots project engaged campus stakeholders to create a clear, equitable set of academic standing expectations and policies for undergraduate students. The policy revisions resulted in shared governance and expectations and replaced negative, confusing probation terminology with student-friendly language. These changes were implemented in the Fall 2023 semester, and have ensured consistency in process and communication, fewer student dismissals, and less manual and duplicative efforts for academic advisors across campus. This initiative has created a blueprint for enhancing student success through other potential academic policy revisions. |
