Abstract:

ACADEMIC ADVISORS, FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR INSTRUCTORS, & ACADEMIC SUCCESS COACHES AS RETENTION CHAMPIONS
Undergraduate nursing students face an intensive curriculum while balancing social, familial, and economic demands. These challenges can impede a nursing student's progression in the program. Academic advisors, first-year seminar instructors, and academic success coaches working in collaboration can aid in the retention of nursing students by offering support from the first through the final semester. This poster session provides an overview of how staff advisors and undergraduate nursing faculty bolster retention by offering a support structure consisting of both proactive and reactive approaches that begins with 'New Student Orientation' and continues through the challenges of prerequisite courses like anatomy and physiology and, ultimately, the nursing courses themselves. |
