Title: The Rich (Data) Port: Leveraging Qualitative Research to Enhance Online Learner Support

Abstract: According to Fall 2018 IPEDS data, 4-Year Public Colleges and Universities experienced a 13.8% increase in fully-online undergraduate students in 2018 compared to the previous year. The growth of online degree programs at traditionally residential colleges and universities dramatically alters the student populations served, with ripple effects for advising and student support offices.

The presenters of two different, large 4-year public universities will share how they developed longitudinal survey instruments and advisory board groups to evaluate the unique needs of online learners within their respective institutions. Presenters will share findings and data about their respective online student populations, how this data was communicated to key institutional stakeholders, and resulting actions taken to adapt advising and student support structures.
