Title: Keeping it Lit: Advisor Burnout Prevention and Management
Lead Presenter: Lauren Philips
Date: On-Demand
Room: On Demand
Abstract: Feeling emotionally drained? Unfulfilled in your relationships with advisees? You're not alone!
Threats to connecting with students or fellow advisors come from many directions in the world of higher education. Three advisors came together to face one such threat: burnout. Burnout figures as a widespread and potentially debilitating state of being that affects professionals across many fields, especially those associated with counseling or caring for others (Ross & Others, 1989; Wardle & Mayorga, 2016).

This presentation empowers advisors to:
Define the concept of burnout and understand its three dimensions
Recognize the extensive negative consequences of burnout on advisors experiencing it and their stakeholders
Understand the distinctive actions advisors and advisor supervisors can take to mitigate or prevent against burnout
Create a personalized Burnout Self-Assessment and Prevention Tool
